(And while there are far too many international carriers/ mobile phone type combinations in the world for us to list on this page we can nearly always give you a price on the phone when you call – and when we cannot we will get back to you with a price quote within 30 minutes during business hours).
How much does the Fone Fix mobile phone unlocking service cost?
Fone Fix’s mobile phone Unlocking fee prices range from $80 AUD to $200 AUD depending on your mobile phone network and country or origin. (The average fee is $100 with Australian mobile phone network unlocks being at the lower end of the scale). Please call for a quote relative to your specific mobile phone model and network service provider.
How do I pay for the Unlock service?
Fone Fix will receive your unlocking fee payment over the phone via credit card (no records are ever kept of your credit card number). Please note all fees are charged in Australian Dollars ($AUD) and where relevant please check any relevant international exchange rate fee or other fee your bank may charge for processing any international purchase. All quoted prices attract a 2% credit card processing service fee and Fone Fix accepts only Visa or Mastercard. We also accept payments via cash and debit card in-store.
How long does the UnLock Service Take?
For most Australian Carriers your unlock code will be ready in 1-3 business days. For International Carriers it varies from 1 to 10 business days. Please be careful buying from unknown unlocking websites on the internet as many of them will take your fee and then just won’t get back to you for months despite claiming they offer an instant service – we speak to many people who have been frustrated by this each and every day.
Can all mobile phones be unlocked?
No. About 20 to 30% of mobile phone unlocks we attempt won’t be possible. If this is the case you will be refunded the fee. (Note in cases where your phone is network barred then unlocking won’t work – in this case there is no fee refund – the onus is on you to tell us if you suspect the mobile phone is a lost or stolen handset PRIOR to booking an unlocking service and we will generally not provide the service in such cases). We also do not provide a refund if you provide us with the wrong IMEI number for your phone!

Why unlock my mobile phone?
There are a number of reasons you’d want to unlock your phone. Most of all, it gives you freedom to use your product the way you want.
1) I want to use Multiple mobile phone networks.
You may own more than one SIM card running on different networks; if you want to swap the SIM cards from time-to-time your phone must be unlocked.
2) I want to change mobile phone networks:
To Save Money: You may find your mobile phone network is not as competitively priced as another and so now want to use a different SIM card in your phone.
For Service Coverage: If you have moved to Regional Australia you may probably want to unlock your mobile phone and switch to Telstra for any remotely reasonable service coverage.
For Better Service Reliability: You may need to switch mobile phone companies due to your current companies service coverage or reliability being poor (hashtag #fail!) close to where you live or places you frequently visit.
3) I am travelling overseas for business or holidays & want to use a local SIM Card.
If you are planning to travel overseas you may want to use your phone with a SIM card from that country – to save yourself money on the notorious over-pricing local Australian phone networks charge for ‘International Roaming Fees’.
If you are already overseas not to worry you can call us from anywhere, make payment via credit card and have your mobile phone unlocked as soon as possible.
4) I am selling my mobile phone and want it unlocked.
You may be planning to sell your old mobile phone, in which case you may be able to sell it at a higher price and not have to worry if your potential buyer’s SIM card will not be accepted by your phone.
5) My mobile phone is Network Barred!
This is generally due to one of the following reasons:
Unpaid Mobile Phone Bill: If you haven’t paid your phone bill your phone company may network bar your phone and refuse to unlock it. We can unlock barred phones for overseas use only, this will never work in the country it was barred in.
Lost and Found: You may have lost your phone and had it network barred then received a new handset from your phone company only to then find your old phone again. We do not unlock any phones that have been reported lost or stolen.
Stolen Phone: Fone Fix will Never Unlock a stolen mobile phone. If you have a stolen mobile phone or are considering purchasing one then please do not contact us full stop. You can check if your handset has been registered lost or stolen here > http://www.amta.org.au/pages/
*Note, All Network Barred & then unlocked Phones will never work in Australia again – however they can be used overseas when you travel or sent to friends or relatives there. It is your responsibly to ensure your phone is legal, not barred or blocked, and if it is found that this is the case, then Fone Fix makes no refunds for any unsuccessful unlock.
Unlocking SIM Locked phones
A Service Provider (SP) lock is used to ensure that your mobile phone will only work on one network; the one that you purchased your phone from. If your mobile phone is locked then it will refuse to accept a SIM card from another network. Unlocking is the process of removing the SP Lock so that it is possible to use other SIM cards in your phone. Fone Fix can unlock almost any handset, including iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, all Android Phones, Blackberries, Nokia & most other mobile phones.
Is my mobile phone SIM locked?
The simplest way to check if your phone is locked is to insert a SIM card from another network and see if the phone will accept it. If your phone is locked you will often see an error message of some kind. These messages vary depending on your handset manufacturer. Here are some examples where the mobile phone is definitely locked:
Nokia = “Enter restriction code” or “SIM card rejected”
Sony Ericsson = “Incorrect SIM” or “Enter Correct SIM”
Samsung = “Invalid Network SIM…Enter Code”
Unlocking User-Locked Mobile Phones – (When you forgot your own mobile phone password).
Another reason your phone may be locked is if you have forgotten your security code (it happens to the best of us!). If this is the case we will need to reset the security lock code or password to bring your mobile phone back into working order. Please note this service will require you to visit us in-store in one of our Sydney service-centres.
Security codes are a feature designed to prevent unauthorised access to your mobile phone’s data and therefore are extremely difficult to retrieve. In most cases, if your mobile phone becomes locked and you haven’t previously backed up your data (ie your contacts, images or the messages saved to your mobile phone’s memory – not its memory card) it is unlikely they we will be able to recover your data without an extra data recovery service.
Resetting your mobile phone’s security lock code usually requires that we use a special flash cable and unlock tool to reload the software and/ or firmware – this may cause the removal of all data on your mobile phone.
If the device is an iPhone and has been registered with an Apple iTunes ID unlocking the passcode/User lock with not bypass this security feature and you will not be able to activate the device.
Given this, we recommend that just before you send us your mobile phone you may like to try the pass codes 0000 or 12345 as they are the default security codes that are used on most mobile phones. If you have not changed the code from the default you may be lucky and unlock your mobile phone yourself.
Network Barred Phones
Is the phone you are about to purchase stolen?
Has your mobile phone been locked out of a network or are you receiving a message that says you have Call Barring activated?
Check here to see if a service provider has barred your IMEI number (the mobile phone’s serial number). All buyers of second-hand mobile phones should request proof of ownership at the time of purchase.
Since 15 September 2003 all carriers share their data electronically allowing for unilateral IMEI blocking of lost and stolen mobile phones across all networks.
To assist retailers and consumers to ascertain if a phone has been reported as lost or stolen, AMTA provides a free IMEI check. This service will provide you information as to whether or not a handset has been reported as lost or stolen across the networks.
Warning: This check only provides details of phones reported and blocked at the time of the inquiry therefore it is not conclusive. If the owner of the phone does not report it lost or stolen prior to your purchase, the resulting IMEI check cannot identify it as a lost or stolen.
Is unlocking illegal?
No, it is a common misconception that unlocking your mobile phone is illegal. In fact quite the opposite, it is your consumer right to have your handset unlocked.
The mobile phone network companies must provide you with an unlock code if you request it – but they normally will consume a large amount of your time during the request process (they often will keep you on hold for hours at one of their fabulous out-sourced call-centres in India or the The Phillipines), charge you for the privilege, and then may insist you pay for all monthly rental in advance for the remainder of your contract.
Is changing IMEI numbers illegal?
Yes! We will not do this for anyone as the mobile phone may be stolen or lost.
